Editorial Standards
This page explains how AI Tools produces its AI tool rankings, how we verify product details, and how advertising relates to editorial decisions. Every article on the site is written against these standards.
Product details change — always verify before paying
AI products move fast. Features, pricing, free-tier limits, available regions, model versions, and account tiers can change between the day an article is published and the day you read it. We re-check each ranking on its Updated date, but a tool you are about to pay for, deploy at work, or rely on for a deadline deserves a fresh check on the vendor's own site.
When an article on this site recommends a tool for paid work, treat the recommendation as a shortlist entry, not a final answer. Open the vendor page, confirm the pricing tier, read the current terms of service, and (where it matters) check the data-processing or privacy documentation before you commit.
How we rank
Each ranking starts with a clear reader job — for example, drafting marketing copy, generating product images, summarising meetings, or shipping code. From that job we work out a shortlist of credible tools and the criteria most likely to separate them: feature fit, pricing model, free-tier usefulness, integration surface, and the kind of work each tool actually does well.
Where two tools are close, we describe the tradeoff in the article rather than forcing an artificial ranking. We do not include tools we cannot evaluate reasonably, and we avoid carrying forward picks that have stopped being updated or that have changed pricing in a way that breaks their original value proposition.
High-stakes topics
Some articles touch healthcare, mental health, public safety, education, or legal compliance. For those topics we link to primary sources, prefer official guidance over secondary reporting, and call out where reader judgment or a qualified professional should override anything an AI tool produces. AI output is not a substitute for clinical, legal, or regulatory advice.
Advertising and affiliate disclosure
Advertising supports the site. Ad slots are labelled, do not sit inside ranked lists, and are not used to influence which tools we recommend. If we add affiliate links in future, we will mark them clearly and keep them out of the ranking decision.
Corrections
If you see a stale price, a removed feature, or a tool that no longer matches our description, email contact@ai-tools.co.za and we will update the article. Corrections show up as a new Updated date on the affected page.
